Thrive with Change: Practical Tips

Scientifically-proven, super easy tips to implement immediately.

Schedule regular breaks

Taking short, regular breaks allows your mind to refresh and it’s even more necessary when you’re working from home. When we spend too much time working on the same task we start to lose focus and our productivity declines.

Tiny breaks can make a big difference.

In fact, a 2003 study showed that a 20-30 second micro-break among data entry workers increased speed, accuracy, and performance.

The problem is that most of us don’t take enough breaks when left to our own devices. We get caught up in what we’re doing. One study showed that scheduling breaks is much more effective than relying on yourself to take one when you need it.

I’m keeping this post deliberately short in hopes you take the time for a break.

Perhaps make it an active break as this tends to be more effective than “resting” breaks if you’re at a desk all day. Walk outside or up and down the stairs. Do some active stretching. Do 10 squats between tasks.

This little break will give your brain some much needed space to find new perspective and maybe you’ll just solve that problem you’ve been grappling with.

Do yourself a favour and schedule a break!
